Giving Back to the Head Start Family

Volunteers are an important part of our Head Start program. We have a great need for volunteers in a number of areas including:

  • Help in the classroom with 3, 4 and 5-year-old children
  • Provide training/professional development opportunities or space for staff and parents
  • Clean, paint, and help with the general repair of facilities
  • Share a special talent
  • Donate funds or items of need for our program such as books, paper, crayons, writing and drawing materials, etc.

Who can volunteer at Head Start?

Anyone who has a passion for helping children and families.

Those who plan to volunteer at Luzerne County Head Start more than once a year must fill out an application, sign an agreement of confidentiality and obtain required credentials. This is a necessary step to ensure the safety of our children.

Why are volunteers important to our program?

In addition to helping our program run smoothly, each volunteer’s contribution of time is assigned a dollar value and counted as a donation.

In order for our program to qualify for the federal grant, which covers 80% of our operating budget, Head Start is required to collect donations totaling 20% of our budget.

Donations of volunteer time help us meet this important requirement.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

Once you have completed the application below, email it to lchsvolunteer@hsweb.org. Our Family Engagement team will contact you with the next steps.
