ASSOCIATE TEACHER - Luzerne County Head Start



  • AAS, Early Childhood Education, CDA credential; or HS Diploma with obtaining a CDA or AA degree within 2 years of hire or placement
  • Bilingual Language abilities, English/Spanish, a plus


Implement educational activities by providing and maintaining an atmosphere in the classroom that promotes school readiness and developmentally appropriate practices for 3 and 4-year old children. Assist the Head Start Teacher in planning and carrying out educational activities to meet the National Head Start Program Performance Standards and local plan.  


A $750 monetary incentive will be paid to newly employed Luzerne County Head Start staff members who start work after July 1, 2021: $375 payout will be paid upon successful completion of the first 90 days; $375 payout after 1 year of service

Requirements that must be satisfied prior to hire
Proof of Degree/Certification and Experience Required to meet the qualifications for position
Background Clearances:
(1) FBI Fingerprints; PA DHS Registration; Service Code 1KG756
(2) Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
(3) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
Successful completion of Pre-Employment Physical Examination which includes a Tuberculosis screening (arrangements made upon conditional offer of employment)

Location, Hours & Salary
FAIRVIEW Elementary/Crestwood, Pre-K Counts Classroom; FT 37.5hrs/wk
NANTICOKE Center – 1010 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke; FT 37.5 hrs/wk
BEEKMAN STREET – 23 Beekman Street, PT 30hrs/wk

  • Rate of Pay: Based on Education/Eligible for overtime pay:
  • AA Degree – $12.43/hr
  • CDA – $11.77/hr
  • HS Diploma/GED – $11.21/hr
  • Bilingual Adjustment in pay of additional 5% for English/Spanish language abilities
